Hurricane Harvey Relief Initiative

On August 25, 2017, Hurricane Harvey became the first Category 3 intensity storm to make landfall in the U.S. since Hurricane Wilma, ending a record 12-year period of avoiding major hurricanes. The extent of the disaster caused by Hurricane Harvey and its remnants has created barriers for relief agencies to reach some of the hardest-hit areas. The storm lashed hundreds of miles of coastline from Corpus Christi, Texas to Lake Charles, Louisiana. Flooding occurred in more than one-quarter of Harris County, Texas (location of Houston) and affected more than 4.5 million people. The UNCA's goal is to quickly restore a sense of relief and normalcy to impacted communities by streamlining relief efforts through multiple agencies.

Phase One: Phase One: During Phase One, from September 2, 2017, through October 31, 2017, the UNCA will provide shelter support while streamlining efforts through community leaders to deploy concentrated resources.
